Frequently Asked Questions

Signal Hill School Enhancement Society (SHSES) was formed in 2000 – one year before Battalion Park School was built. We believe the Society was named before the name of the school was confirmed in 2001.

Our school is unique as it has two buildings. A utility right-of-way runs between them, so they could never connect. The original, smaller school building is referenced by the school as the “Mini” school. Where the larger school building is called the “Core” building. Each building has its own playground: referenced as “Mini Playground” and “Core Playground”.

The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) does not provide funding for replacing playgrounds. They do provide monthly inspections to ensure the spaces are safe for everyone. They will remove equipment that can no longer be safely maintained.

With two school buildings and over 500 students enrolled each year, it would be impossible to manage them all in a single playground.

Yes! We have students and children in our community (who attend other schools) who have limited mobility and/or use wheelchairs. The nearest inclusive playground is 7-10 kms away. We want to ensure all children in our community have an inclusive playground closer to home.

Absolutely! Our current design is based on popular playground design elements. We will be working with students to design a survey to share with all classes and gather their input. We will also ask for community input. Once all feedback is received, we hope to announce the final design in Fall 2025.

To achieve an August 2026 install, all funding (grant awards, personal & corporate donations) must be in place by March 2026. Equipment can then be ordered April for August install. (It takes approximately 12 weeks for delivery).
